Energy affordability is of utmost concern for constituents and lawmakers alike. As the AI boom continues, and demand for electricity rises alongside energy costs, Republicans and Democrats have found rare common ground around a new circulating idea: AI data centers should bring their own generation (BYOG), building or contracting their own power supply rather than shifting the costs of electricity and grid infrastructure upgrades onto ratepayers.
